If I were you, I'd just stick it out til El Capitan where TRIM support is native. Will it have any sort of lasting effect or cause any major problems? Absolutely not. May it potentially degrade performance a little? Yes. What I am hoping, is that Yosemite is not readible on my SD card, but once i put it on a usb drive it will work.

So when it is time to click install Mac OS, it gives me that error. That's where I went to format my drives, create a partition, etc.

The way I get to disk utilities is through the top menu bar, which allows me to select it. There is not menu for utilities or anything.

Directly after that, comes up the Mac OS installer. When I click the up arrow underneath my drive, or the drive itself, the screen goes grey, with the apple logo and a loading bar. I'm praying that my issue is that this method cannot be done via SD card, and only via a usb drive. But instead of using a thumb (USB) drive I did it on an SD card. Thank you for your answer! This is exactly what I did. Can anyone assist me? I've read that third party drives aren't supported by apple, but Crucial, Samsung, and other name brands are all drives ive seen in youtube videos that work with their steps, but when I do it, nothing comes up. I have Yosemite onto a bootable drive on a 16gb SD card and that gets picked up by my computer too.Īt this point I feel that i tried everything, and I feel defeated here.

But when i click to install it, it says that "Mac OS cannot be installed on this computer." I've been trying to do this for 2 full days now, and still no luck getting Yosemite on. My new Crucial SSD shows up in disk utility, and I portioned it by hitting the drop down menu in the partions tab and selecting 1 partition, hit apply, and it shows up as an option to install mac os on it. It turns out that an SD card cannot be used when doing this. The issue turned out to be that when I used the bootcamp OS I tried using it with an SD card, rather than a USB thumb drive.
